Cooper and Me Biographies
Monique Peters
As founder and CEO of Cooper and Me, Inc., Monique Peters is fulfilling a passionate commitment to advocate for children through quality media that improve their lives. Though she holds both a law degree and an MBA, Monique counts a college internship at The Children’s Television Workshop as a pivotal experience – one that opened her eyes to the important role educational programming can play in helping kids learn while they’re having fun. Inspired by her daughter Alexa’s talent as an author/illustrator, Monique created Cooper and Me, Inc. to build emotional resilience in children through media that encourage open dialog and constructive problem-solving with adults. “If Cooper and Me helps kids explore life together with their parents and teachers, so they’re better equipped to handle the inevitable ups and downs that occur,” she says, “then I’ll feel we’ve accomplished what we set out to do.” Monique and Alexa also share a passion for helping others, and a key goal for the mother/daughter team is their ability to support philanthropic causes, especially those that serve children. Monique Peters resides near Boston, MA, with her husband, three children, and their dogs Cooper, a Labrador Retriever, and Bella, a Morkie.
Alexa Peters
Thirteen-year-old Alexa Peters has expressed her thoughts and feelings by creating fanciful illustrated stories for as long as she can remember. The 7th grader recalls that when she was little, before Cooper joined the family, she wrote about a pet cat whom she loved dearly. “On my first day of school, I was petrified,” Alexa says. “I hung onto my mom’s leg, saying ‘where’s my cat?’ When I got home my mom gave me a little stuffed cat that I named Pinkie, and after that, I always brought Pinkie to school.” That experience formed the basis for Alexa’s first storybook, Cooper and Me, written when she was 11, which she hopes will help other little kids cope with their fears of separating from their parents and trying new things. As for the future, Alexa is committed to writing stories that teach children about the values she holds dear, such as being tolerant and compassionate towards all people – including yourself! “There aren’t classes in how to get along with others – that’s very hard for kids,” she says. “You have to learn to be who you are and be true to yourself.”
Bridget Mason Doran
Musical Director Bridget Mason Doran wrote and recorded the songs that accompany each Cooper and Me book and also provided the voice narration. Owner of Tiny Tunes and music educator in the Boston area for almost 15 years, she is passionate about her life’s work, which is bringing joy to kids’ lives through their involvement in music. Bridget’s concept for the musical soundtrack is to extend the fun and learning in the books by introducing simple, catchy melodies and repeatable words and phrases that young children will remember. A second goal is to encourage adults to share in the experience by singing along with their kids. Originally attracted to the project because she loved the idea of a child writing a book to help others, Bridget has become the proud owner of a Golden Retriever since composing songs about Cooper’s antics. “Cooper turned me into a dog person!” she says. “Now I get it!” Bridget lives near Boston, MA with her family, including their pup Tucker, who is eight months old.
Cooper
Two and a half years old, and full of energy and silliness, Cooper is a black Labrador Retriever who loves to go on adventures. Cooper adores his human family – two girls and a boy – and his “little sis” Bella the Morkie, and he’s friendly to just about any two-legged and four-legged creature he meets. For Cooper, fun is the operative word, and he’s ready to play whenever he gets the chance. “Ball?,” he says. “Did you say, ‘ball?’ Let’s go!!”
